The World from the Eyes of Elekah Slater
Hoʻolauna o Elekah Slater

Aloha mai, I'm Elekah Denia Kōnaneahina J. Slater. I'm a 10-year-old girl who loves learning, science, nature, the Earth, plants, animals, and music. I feel a strong connection to the natural world, and I care deeply, even when I seem quiet on the outside. My favorite color is black, and I enjoy activities like ballet, piano, violin, and jiu jitsu. I'm fluent in Hawaiian, and am smart, curious, and thoughtful. I have strong feelings, I stand up for what I believe in, and I feel things deeply. Sometimes I may seem intense, or dark — but I have a caring heart.

My Future Hopes

When I'm older, I hope to become a zoologist and an environmental lawyer, while also studying psychology. I hope to attend the University of Washington and work for the Wolf Conservation Center, or at least for a nonprofit organization that helps protect wolves. I want to interact with wolves, protect them, and help other animals as well.

While I'm in college, I hope to have a side job caring for pets, like cats and dogs. I would like to be a dog walker and pet sitter, and also take care of cats. As a backup plan, in case my main career path does not work out, I could become an accountant or bookkeeper. That way, I could still help support the Wolf Conservation Center and other causes I care about.

My School Life

As of now, I'm in 5th grade at Ke Kula ʻo Samuel Manaiakalani Kamakau — or Kamakau for short. I used to go to Kulaniakea, a Hawaiian monastery preschool, where I met one of my best friends.
